Food Options

Walk along the streets of Metro Manila and you will find many different fast food shops. In malls there is a proliferation of these shops and many times, it would even be the same shop located in different locations for better accessibility. While there is a shortage of local information and statistics about store placement, it is worthwhile to note that both Jollibee and McDonald’s branches are placed near the churches and universities. Along the North Luzon Expressway and South Super Highway, gasoline stations have begun to build more expansive refilling areas to accommodate not only those cars that require filling up, but also the humans that drive them. Even hospitals are not exempt from this phenomenon - the surrounding area of St. Lukes hospital is riddled with fast food joints that one would mistake the structure for a mall.
In urban areas, such stores have sprung up even in the midst of busy streets. Recently a strip of buildings have been renovated along Paseo de Roxas to house some fast food stalls. Previously, most Makati denizens had to be content with the local in-building concessionaries, but now a plethora of food choices have been made available to them. The fast food joints are built into the locations where in-building concessionaires used to be, they are now moving into territories which the home kitchen used to dominate. In favor of the packed lunches, the working professional can now go to their choice of fast food store to have breakfast, lunch, merienda, and even dinner.
