After not watching TV for several months, because of a combination of things (school, work, and plain old tiredness), I got to watch a few shows, not in their entirety, but a good enough dose. From Tyra Banks’ show with plus size models to a cooking contest reality show to a documentary on a tourist guide to a death defying reality show, it was an amazing mix of shows.
The most interesting one was the cooking contest reality show, Top Chef. Whoever thought that cooking would be an interesting contest. During my younger years, I remember seeing a Chinese cooking show on Sundays, but that was different. Those days most of the cooking shows were instructional, but this was cut throat competition via cooking. Say that again. Cooking?!? So we’ve had Iron Chef America for a few years now, but I’ve never watched it consistently. By having a series mixed with intrigue, fierce competition, and maybe a sprinkling of insanity and ego-tripping-you get a riveting drama.
As a person who likes to eat, it definitely was eye candy for me. It also fired up the chef in me. I might pick up the pots and pans this summer and try my hand at cooking again. Hopefully, somebody will be brave enough to try whatever I cook.
On the other side of the world, Japanese Anime has already taken a crack at it. I know of two shows Cooking Master Boy and Yakitate Japan! I’ve watched both and they were also interestingly…interesting. Why are networks now featuring more and more reality shows?
