GlovesManny Pacquiao alias Pacman The Destroyer defeats another contender yet again. This time it was Jorge Solis hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico. Their fight was held in San Antionio, Texas over at the Alamodome.

Just for the record, I don’t like watching sports like this. A bloody sport at that. Who would want to watch a sport where contenders try to knock the living daylights out of someone? Apparently, millions of Filipinos did. Some even paid for the pay-per-view channels and some even went to the Santa Ana Racetrack where a live showing was taking place.

While I was having lunch with my family (and extended family) at The Fort, the restaurant staff couldn’t hide their enthusiasm for Pacquiao’s fight that they even had to change the in house music to tune in to a radio broadcast of his fight. As if being inundated with news about him before his fight wasn’t enough, they even had to cover his fight blow by blow. For crying out loud, there are two players, they each have two fists, and they are both trying to knock other out contender. Its not like a team sport where you’d really have a hard time imagining what all of the players are doing and what strategy they have.

Boxing is pretty much very straight forward–hit your opponent as hard as you can and try to avoid his punches. Granted that opponents who are taller do have an added advantage, the whole sport can be summed up into just a few words–hit ‘em with all you got and hope they are befuddled enough so that they can’t hit back.
