I’m experimenting with Flickr. It now has a plugin for wordpress. I’ve also been promising some friends that I’d be posting some of our old photos. Before I forget, note that I took the pictures for most of these shots (90%+). Also, these pictures are not perfect as the digicams back in those days were sporting a max of 640×480 they also drained 4 Energizer batteries in less than a day. Here you go!

P1010049P1010048 Here’s almost everyone. There were 17 of us delegates then. For those who are wondering why we’re all wrapped up and looking like tourists, we were in Rome for Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 and also for the Holy Week. We were there from (searches memory) April 16 or so and stayed for about 10 days. I will check my old passport for the dates as this was 7 years ago. Wow!

P1010052P1010053An audience with the Pope! We got to stay in the Pope Paul VI Auditorium. We got tickets to the event beforehand and they were color coded. If you got a green one (special) you get to greet the Pope. In the next pictures, a professor at the University of Asia and the Pacific, also a Philippine delegate, got to greet the Pope. She’s the one kneeling in front of the Pope. P1010056P1010060P1010062The Pope gives his greeting and then leaves. During all this time, some Spanish girls in front of us kept singing.

Outside the auditorium, we see the people who sing for the Pope–identified by their orange sash. They were still singing as they walked out of the auditorium, Aggie (in Red) is trying to out-walk them.P1010063

Having lunch. Since we walk around a lot, we bring our lunches in white paper bags (very sturdy ones indeed!). These were packed by the conference organizers and they became an identifier for us. Lost your group? Look for someone bringing along a white paper bag!

  1. your photos bring back a lot of memories in rome….

  2. You got to see the pope at such close range? Hehehe, the photo is a little blur and distant. Still, lucky you. The last time we Singaporeans got to see the Pope was 1986. :-p

  3. ClappingTrees: Hehe. See the disclaimer/note. It was the advent of digicams back then. I forgot to mention that I also saw JPII in 2002. (that rhymes!) The new (relatively) Pope is coming to Australia in 2008 for the World Youth Day. You might want to join a group in your country.

Did you also get to see him personally back then?

Mara: I have about 160+ photos more in flickr. I’ll be making a series of posts for this topic. Hope to see you here again.

  4. Hey, Weng!

I think I saw myself on a few –no! a lot!– of those Rome shots!

    Great site!

  5. Weng: Why don’t you blog about UNIV, esp. UNIV 2008, whose theme is: “Entertainment & Happiness in a Multi-media World”? My thoughts on that theme are on my googlepages site (which I know is badly designed! grr..)

  6. When I went through your lists, it seems that I covered most of the topics already.
