The most exciting thing during a makeover show is the end part where they show the before and after pictures. For the past few weeks, I’ve been watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on cable and the most dramatic scenes are toward the end where families see their newly renovated homes.

In one episode, they had to take out molds in one of the rooms. They ended up giving the home a Moroccan look but with an indoor basketball court. It sounds like those two words shouldn’t even be together in one sentence, but yes. The crew managed to create a house with those two features.

Some of the reactions are cries–both teary and shrilling, some jump up and down, some hug other family members and the crew, and some just freeze in awe. They couldn’t believe that such a ‘new’ home can be made from their old living space. The biggest challenge is that the crew does not confirm their plans with the families, but instead just goes from their initial interview and how they think the families will want to have their ‘new’ homes made.
